Unraveling Karma Episode 22

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010 | Astrology, Chiron, Karma, Podcasts | No Comments

I explore projection in relationship relative to Saturn’s current transit through Libra, the sign of the other. Birgitta asks about finding fulfilling work and Beth asks about what relationship karma she needs to deal with while Saturn transits Libra (with both Pluto and North Node in that sign).

Karmic Profile: American Politician Geraldine Ferraro

Wednesday, August 25th, 2010 | Astrology, Karma, Lilith, Politics | No Comments

I was a kid when Geraldine Ferraro was a candidate for Vice President of the USA. I remember not thinking it was a big deal but hearing everyone say it was. I also admit to watching “This Week With David Brinkley” as a kid, so remember being exposed to politicos and know-it-alls talking about what they talk about.

Tomorrow (8/26) is Ferraro’s birthday, and she made it through my birthday scanning filter. I didn’t know what it was that drew me to her chart until I added in all the asteroids and other things I use. Her Sun is conjunct Lilith, it turns out, and that’s what it was.

Data: August 26 1935, 9 PM, Newburgh NY (rated A)

But let’s start with her karmic story.

Ferraro in her soul’s various lives is defined by the people and places she comes from – this is her South Node of the Moon in Cancer in the 4th house. Pluto at the end of the 4th in Cancer is conjunct it, so she is accustomed to issues of power in her soul’s various lives. Conjunctions to the South Node indicate energies that saturate our environments and families.

Her role in her family and community in her various lives is represented by the South Node ruler Moon, in Leo in the 5th house. She is therefore focused on self-expression, on shining in some way, and having her personal voice heard by others.

The aspects to this Moon tell an interesting story. Moon (she) is squared by retrograde Uranus in Taurus/1st, as well as Mars-Jupiter in Scorpio/7th. This says that in speaking her mind and expressing herself, she consistently finds herself getting friction from conservative power sources (retro Uranus in Taurus/1st) as well as cut-throat ideologues who don’t play fair (Mars-Jupiter in Scorpio/7th). So, politics is the perfect arena for her to play out her karma! She came into this life practiced in dealing with those kinds of influences, skilled in finding ways to balance and respond to those pressures. › Continue reading

New Moon in Leo

Monday, August 9th, 2010 | Astrology, Lunations | 1 Comment

This takes place at 17 degrees of Leo today, 8/9/10.

New Moons are for feeling into the dark of what you cannot see…and allowing what is there air to breathe.

When you do this whatever is ready to be birthed within you is nurtured and can begin its emergence into your conscious life.

It’s easy to see Leo as about creative expression. We can see the performers in our lives living and breathing Leo energy, feeling like they are doing things right when they are the center of attention on one scale or another.

But being the center of attention when it comes to Leo energy is an extreme, a stereotype. The real need the Leo parts of have is to leave a personal mark, to be seen as an individual and offer a personal contribution. These parts of us need to perform for others the experience of being us.

There doesn’t always have to be an audience of more than one (and self often is enough!). But when we have the confidence to honor this part of ourselves we naturally draw to us others who want to experience us performing the experience of being us.

It doesn’t matter the venue, or kind of work, or way of life. Self-expression that honors the Leo within us can take place successfully at the squarest of office jobs – the venue and means are less important than that the individual feels free to offer a personal contribution and can be seen doing it.

But we have to be willing to be seen doing our thing.

Use this new moon in Leo to get in touch with the part of you that craves personal expression, to be seen for who you are and heard for what you have to say. New moons are for feeling, so don’t try to force anything or to conjure up something by the powers of mind or will.

Your best strategy here is to allow yourself to feel into this part of you and what it is ready to say. That there is a new moon in this sign means that there is a part of you ready to come out, to be seen and heard shining in whatever way that is most authentic to you.

The aspects it makes in your natal chart matter a lot, as does the house it falls in. The house has to do with the part of life in which this shining is to take place:

1st: Self, body, style, personality
2nd: Values, self-esteem, skills
3rd: Communication, info in and out, curiosity
4th: Inner world, family, home, emotional landscape
5th: Creative endeavors, hobbies, what gives you pleasure
6th: Daily routine, care of the body, service, teams you are part of
7th: One-to-one relationships of all kinds
8th: Intimacy of all kinds (where we trust others deeply)
9th: Belief, faith, the capacity to expand
10th: Public self, work, place in community
11th: Groups and associations, goals/what you want the future to look like
12th: Your connection to greater reality, where you connect with other levels of consciousness

But remember: Feel into it. Feel what is ready to have attention. There is something ready to be birthed now – allow it to breathe and come out as it will.

From a client reading “Seeing Through Spiritual Eyes”

Saturday, August 7th, 2010 | Astrology, Compassionate Awareness, Karma, Pluto | No Comments

Hi Tom,
I was reading your book
Seeing through Spiritual Eyes and was quite powerfully struck by something you said. I thought it might be useful for others that follow your teachings who are in the midst of a Pluto square with Saturn transiting Libra to aid in the healing of deep wounds or simply to think about.

Anyway, the quote is “The karmic basis for all of our relationships is, in fact, love. If we did not love each other, we would not agree at the level of the spirit and soul to be teachers for each other, which we all do.” For me, this is a gentle/loving way to calm the voice of the inner child that surfaces and asks the question “why” – i.e., why was I born into such a deranged family system or why does this relationship pattern happen over and over again, etc. By shifting the lens of perception from the victim stance to being grateful that the other soul loves/loved me so much to teach me this lesson is liberating especially if there is some early childhood wounding that ignites the “is the world safe” or “I am innately bad” story line.

I find that when the inner child acting from the lower chakras is in her story, that is when I am leaking energy and not coming from a place of empowerment, which is also what the Pluto square is offering during this period of transformation.

Thanks,
J.

Opening to the simple truth that love is the basis of each and every one of our relationships can dilute the momentum of the stories we tell ourselves about why things happen in our lives as they do.

My job as a counseling astrologer supporting people to change karma and evolve energetically/spiritually seems often to rest on imparting this truth.

When we are in the throes of pain it is very difficult to open to it. Yet when we create space in our awareness through some sort of meditative practice we will find ourselves remarkably open to exploring it.

J. references the Pluto square in her note. It is a time when we are confronted with facing our deepest fears. For those with Pluto in Libra in their astrological charts, there is soul wounding surrounding knowing the self in terms of others. Often this can come out as taking the reflections we receive from others personally and as indicative of truth. The Pluto square for them will involve letting those ideas go and re-orienting how they have relationships.

She also mentions Saturn transiting Libra now, going over the Plutos of those people. One thing Saturn calls for is realism, and in Libra over Pluto the kind of awareness she gained from that passage is entirely appropriate.

The Pluto Square for Pluto in Libra People

Saturday, July 17th, 2010 | Astrology, Pluto | No Comments

Those with Pluto 0 to 7 degrees of Libra (born 1972-early 1974) should be dealing these days with questions like these. At the soul level they are learning about fairness, balance, equality, justice, and harmony, and often through relationships with others. We all learn this but this group is at the soul level majoring in it.

Qs for them:

Who are you when no one else is around?

Who are you if no one wants to know who you are?

Have you for whatever reason become a chameleon? Can you see how this has created your relationships?

What in how you relate to others is ready to shift? What about this chameleon self is ready to be left behind?

Saturn Heads Back Into Libra: Meeting the Other

Saturday, July 17th, 2010 | Astrology | No Comments

Saturn’s close to re-entering Libra – it’s a few days off. Here’s a handful of previous posts and articles on Saturn in Libra from me, to get a feel for what I’m thinking about this transit: Saturn in Libra, Saturn in Libra square Pluto in Capricorn, and the retro.

Virgo as a way of doing things is about a lot of things including specificity, improving things, and gaining an uncompromisingly realistic view of what is going on and how it can work better. In the natural zodiac Libra follows it, with Libra being the way of doing things that works with others. At its best it understands the value of compromise and seeks to create balance and harmony, most notably with others.

The shift from Virgo to Libra always has us taking what we’ve been working on by ourselves into the realm of other people. It is where we first show others what we’ve been up to for as long as we’ve been Virgoing on whatever project or idea has been on our plates. When we hit Libra it’s also time to listen to others, to take in advice and counsel from those who might be able to help us or with whom we can join forces to achieve a goal.

As Saturn’s been transiting Virgo your attention has been put on what does and what does not work in how you do things. You’ve been working on improving things on your own, whether health, work/methods, organizational – um – “prowess”, and how it is that you serve others and the world around you. Perhaps this process lead you to a new sense of humility, bringing you able to see in what ways you are not actually perfect (because no one is; there is no such thing – major Virgo medicine, by the way) and getting clear on how and why you might want to improve certain things anyway. › Continue reading

Solar Eclipse in Cancer, Briefly Part II

Sunday, July 11th, 2010 | Astrology, Karma, Lunations | 4 Comments

I did a Bachelor’s degree in philosophy, and was in my head for most of my life. I just met someone who did a PhD in the subject. She asked me how I got to Tucson. I told her that I asked my spirit guides where I could go to write the books I was thinking of writing but didn’t have the inner space to write.

She said immediately, “Oh I don’t believe in that.” I said, “It doesn’t matter if you believe it,” a little perplexed at the pat answer.

But I got the reflection of how I used to be. The eclipse was on my South Node in the 10th house, and I have a past in this life and others being really stuck in my head. Deciding with Capricornian/10th house certainty what I believe is true without having experienced much of anything directly. The Capricorn archetype is a lot about fashioning the world around it in terms of the shoulds it believes should be true.

I saw myself as I am now, in contrast to the academic. Let’s just say that I’m really glad I knew in college that philosophy couldn’t in fact answer all of my questions and didn’t pursue it further. And then after a few years of a kind of limbo I had the world as it really is, and I as I really am, shown to me. And this way of being is unbelievably more cool than stressing with the mind about how the world should be, and how I should be.

The more we live in our heads the more we try to create the world around us as we think it should be. The more we miss what is actually happening.

The more we fail to notice the truth of who we are.

Most of the people in our world are stuck in their heads. It’s what we train each other to do.

But it isn’t enough. It’s just not who we are anymore. Or who we are becoming. We’re spiritual beings with awesome minds – let’s let our minds work with the rest of us instead of letting them run everything. You will never get where your soul is trying to go by staying inside your head!
