I'm an intuitive using astrology, spirit help and symbolic sight to help clients along their journeys. My aim is to help you learn to better understand and honor yourself and others as, if you live in harmony with yourself, you'll be living in harmony with the universe. I respect where you are in your process while offering any information available that will open doors to understanding, acceptance and healing.

My interest in astrology began in the mid 1990s, and I've always been interested in mythology, psychology and the other disciplines that draw from and inform astrology. I came to serious study of it in early 2003 specifically via the enticing words of a new friend ("Blah blah blah, Saturn return, blah blah...."), which seemed to stir something more like memory than interest. I was on my 3rd trip to LA to visit a friend, and halfway through the trip I decided to move to LA. Chiron was conjuncting my 4th house Capricorn North Node at the time, and I dropped the rather corporate things I was doing in Cambridge, MA because of gut instinct and made ready to move to LA.

Beginning on my return to Cambridge, I read nearly everything about astrology I could find. I was discouraged by the fatalism I saw in much of the literature I was drawn to. Implicit in much of it was the assumption that things just happen to us because of the planets, that we don't have choice about how it goes. The idea that we might use it to learn how to take responsibility for our lives seemed glaringly absent. I knew I'd found a marvelous tool to help put the sometimes unseen aspects of people's lives in perspective in order to help them. No matter what I was reading, no matter how much I wanted to tear my hair out, I focused on the thought, "Each of us has choice - in every moment."

Through an astrologer in his apprenticeship program, I encountered the work of Steven Forrest, one of the developers of the evolutionary astrology paradigm. I read his books and felt at home, understanding the approach to be the only one I would be excited about using and sharing with others. It combines the basic philosophy and understanding of Jyotish (the ancient astrology of India), which appeals to me deeply on some levels, with a contemporary vocabulary and fully humanistic approach that I find sits well with Western ears. In 2004 I entered Steven's apprenticeship program, and I currently hold a Level I certificate from him.

After beginning a counseling astrology practice, I began learning about the human energy system. This lead to a study of the skills and process of working with spirit guides and a recognition that I work with symbolic sight. These in combination with astrology are the basis of my work.  By using all of these skills in tandem, a unique and multidimensional picture of your life issues emerges, and problems can be seen, felt, addressed and healed on multiple levels.

While I am available to assist with any issue, I specialize in existential questions, letting go of outmoded ideas about yourself to live in the present moment, and in facilitating deep transformation - you should be walking your own path, not the one you think you've been told you should walk.

My current research interests include

  • integrating the messages in the body with the messages in the chart (including how astrology and the chakras interface)
  • broadening the understanding and dialogue on the archetype of Lucifer (asteroid 1930)
  • introducing to astrology the asteroid Arjunsuri (20300)
  • exploring how the Lilith, as the true Black Moon, informs individuals' lives
  • exploring archetypes as processes, our lives as mythic journeys
  • developing teaching tools to bring astrology alive, so that more of us can have a sense of astrology as a living, breathing language as a marvelous tool to support healing and understanding

I hold a bachelor's degree in philosophy from The College of Wooster. I'm also a writer of satire, absurd fiction and poetry, at times a musician, and at other times a crafty linocut artist.

What people are saying:

"In a difficult situation, I no longer felt like I had to uproot my entire life to alleviate stress - all I needed to do was acknowledge myself: my strengths, my patterns, my joys. Thanks!"
V.W., Phonecia, NY

"My experience with Tom Jacobs as an astrologer has been like a warm conversation with a caring friend....I get the feeling he never comes to astrology with a scripted statement, but responds in the living moment with intuitive, gentle and instructive guidance that I am free to take or leave, while sharing what he’s studied deeply as well as anything recently unearthed and discovered. Having that kind of warmth, freedom and support from any person is a gift, and Tom has it."
A.E., Los Angeles

"Tom gives you powerful tools to practice every day to create a difference in your life. He's the teacher I go to when I’m stuck."
J.B.J., Los Angeles

"I found out that [the archetype of] Lucifer was a source of my cynicism. Certain suspicions were confirmed about my true nature that I could not before identify nor adequately express. So many details were shared. It was uncanny how easily Tom pulled out important facets of my story. In fact, nothing he shared was erroneous. We’d never met. The only information he had was my birth date and time and my chart in front of him and he spent the whole time uncovering, confirming and validating. No false projections or allusions, no direction to play the lottery so many times a week or to sign up for this dating service because I would meet the love of my life. None of that! Thank the gods! Just practical, sage insight I could embrace and believe. Thanks, Tom."
